Our Mission

We’re part of a movement.

RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is one of three AmeriCorps Seniors national service programs. AmeriCorps is a federal agency for service, volunteering and civic engagement.

In 2019, AmeriCorps Seniors connected more than 200,000 Americans to service opportunities in their communities. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers use their acquired skills, knowledge, and experience to make a difference to individuals, non-profits, and faith-based and other community organizations throughout the United States.

North Carolina AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers Achievements in 2020

  • More than 2,800 North Carolina seniors met critical community needs while contributing to longer healthier lives through one of three Senior Corps programs.

  • Foster Grandparents tutored and mentored 2,500 young people.

  • Senior Companions helped 620 seniors live independently.

  • RSVP volunteers helped strengthen the impact of 140 organizations across the state.

The Mission of LoveCDC RSVP AmeriCorps Seniors is to recruit, train and place RSVP volunteers with community partners (RSVP Volunteer Stations) in Forsyth County dedicated to meet critical community needs in the following areas:

EDUCATION To help improve the reading skills for striving readers in Kindergarten-3rd grade with the assistance of RSVP tutors, reading buddies and mentors. To address the education needs, our original intent was to seek a partnership with elementary schools to place volunteers in the classroom. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for tutors, reading buddies, and mentors shifted from the classroom setting to virtual learning.

To assist with the program’s increased cost for virtual learning, LoveCDC RSVP Advisory Council created an Impact Grant application video for submission to the Black Philanthropy Initiative (BPI) of the Winston-Salem Foundation.  LoveCDC was awarded the BPI Impact Grant in the amount of $5,000.  This funding allows the RSVP volunteers access to the necessary resources, tools and training needed to reach the students through virtual learning. Thank you, BPI!

HEALTHY FUTURES: To improve the quality of life for homebound seniors and older persons with disabilities, who live independently with the assistance of RSVP volunteers as companions, food pantry helpers, and transportation drivers for medical needs.
